Life-long learning through books

L

I didn’t follow a conventional education path. In fact, I went straight into the workforce after high school. However, my education never stopped.

I enjoy reading and learning. As I’ve gotten older, I actually read more, because I’ve realized you can never stop learning and I benefit from it.

Choosing an entrepreneurial life, I’ve never had to write a resume. I’ve never applied for a job, ever, actually. So I’ve never had a resume. But I realize if I had to write one, it wouldn’t have the usual things in it. I consider myself unemployable.

But I like to read. I don’t LOVE it, I’m not one of those people that reads books every day. But I will buy books I think might help me, and then get around to them when I feel like it.

I do love what I learn from them, and that is what motivates me.

When I used to travel more, spending many hours driving, I did more audio books. I enjoyed that time in the car. The solitude, pondering whatever it was that I was listening to it. I didn’t travel with a phone, so I had no distractions. I had many great “eureeka” moments that way.

Now I read at home, I try to fit in what I can when I can. I definitely have more books in my library than I’ve read, but each one of them has great ideas or concepts for me to think about.

So, “on paper”, I’m just a high school educated guy. But the reality is I’ve never stopped learning and will continue to.
