What do you need to hear most right now?

W

This week’s article has taken more effort than usual. I’ve started and stopped over a half a dozen attempts. Maybe I’ll come back to them when my inspiration is better. I scrolled through the last year of daily journaling looking for inspiration and topics that I’ve not already written about.

I could feel the pressure I was putting on myself to get it done. And yet, nothing was happening. The more I tried, the more difficult it became.

I finally put all of that work aside, and started with a blank page. I wrote at the top:

“What do I need to hear most right now?”

And I sat quietly in my chair for a while.

Then I wrote:

“Don’t try and force things”.

And then I decided to turn that into my article for this week.

The writing is coming easy now. I’m taking my own advice. It’s such simple advice, and yet I find I can forget it. The more I force things, the more difficult it becomes.

I am at my best when I allow “the Muse” to arrive. Things like completing my books and hosting Zooms come from that space. The problem is I can get impatient. I try to force something to happen instead of simply allowing it to happen.

I can feel such a difference in my body as I write this now. Of peace and surrender. I’m not going to overthink today’s article or judge it. It was the most important thing I needed to hear in this moment.

Why not take a moment and check-in with yourself? What do you need to hear most right now?
